A Life Dedicated to Education, Service, and Purpose

Sona Traore Sesay is a lifelong educator and youth development leader whose work over the past decade has focused on expanding educational opportunity, student wellbeing, and leadership across Liberia. She currently serves as Assistant Minister for Student Personnel Services at the Ministry of Education, overseeing programs supporting approximately 1.2 million students nationwide. She leads national initiatives that strengthen student development systems, expand access to psychosocial health and career guidance services, and advance student-centered policies connecting classroom learning with holistic growth. Grounded in service and collaboration, she works alongside educators, partners, communities, and policymakers to cultivate safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environments where every learner can thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and civically. Her office champions evidence-informed reforms that elevate student voice, resilience, opportunity, and long-term national development through responsive leadership, strategic partnerships, innovative programming, effective coordination, accountability, compassion, excellence, equity, and hope.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the Gaziantep University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy from the Boston College. Beginning as a teacher and Life Skills Program Officer at LEAD Monrovia Football Academy, she later became Executive Director, strengthening partnerships and advancing holistic youth development. An Amujae Leader with the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center, she champions gender-inclusive leadership and public service. Her 2023 International Visitor Leadership Program Impact Award recognized an initiative empowering more than 300 adolescents through body awareness, confidence, and personal development. Guided by purpose, integrity, and unwavering belief in young people, she continues building inclusive education systems while inspiring girls, women, and future leaders to transform communities with courage, compassion, vision, and action. Through mentorship, policy innovation, cross-sector collaboration, she remains committed to creating lasting opportunities for every Liberian student to flourish confidently.
